Unboxing the Sportiiiis from 4iiii Innovations

After I bought the 4iiii Viiiiva Heart Rate Monitor back in March and put it through the tests, it quickly became one of my must-have pieces of equipment for every outing. Ever since then, I have been super curious about the Sportiiiis, 4iiii's other flagship product that provides training information to the user via multi-colored LED lights and a small speaker. I reached out to the good folks at 4iiii and they were gracious enough to send me a demo unit to check out and review.

Here is a quick look at what the Sportiiiis looks like right out of the box, along with some of my first impressions. (pardon the production quality - Pixar never returned my call for an RFP)

Update 7/1/2013: 4iiii Plans to Ship Universal Mount in Summer 2013

After highlighting the lack of a universal mounting clip as shown in 4iiii-issued marketing materials, I thought it best to circle back with the company before moving forward with the review. One of 4iiii's product managers quickly reached back out to let me know that they have run into some unforeseen production snags with the mount, but that it should hopefully be available this summer.

At that time they plan to ship out mounts to all current Sportiiiis owners, which I think is a very classy move. To my knowledge, this is the second time 4iiii has gone above and beyond for their customers, the first being withen they issued new, updated Viiiiva units to early adopters of the BLE/ANT+ bridging heart rate strap.

So, if you own a Sportiiiis, be on the lookout for a package in the mail and be ready to pull out the scissors to cut those zip ties. (CAUTION: scissors can be hazardous to your sunglass's health, proceed with caution.)
